Random Giveaway #8: Wrong Song Lyrics

I don't know how many readers have seen the television commercial for VW... you know, the one that has the various individuals singing Elton John's Rocket Man and none of them have the lyrics correct. I can't seem to get it out of my head. Although I don't watch much TV these days, that one always seems to be on when I am watching.
For this contest, I thought it would be interesting (and hopefully fun) to have readers admit the song lyrics you've had wrong in the past (or present). It can be a holiday song, a popular song, or something completely obscure, but you'll need to type out both what you thought the lyrics were as well as what the correct lyrics are (ahh, thank goodness for the internet). It doesn't have to be the entire song, simply the portion that you had wrong.
Winner will choose one of these designs - Poster photos of ladies or art deco
This is what the coasters look like - in place of the boy are the bicycle poster photos
The gift for this contest will be one of (winner's choice) two glass bicycle/photo coaster sets (4 coasters in the package). The two sets of images are pictured above. While they currently hold photos of old bicycle posters as shown, they can easily be replaced with your own photos, if the winner prefers. This contest begins now and will continue through Monday, December 19, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. MST. The comment submission form will serve as the time stamp indicator and any entries after that time will not be included in the giveaway. If you have not already done so, or if you need a refresher, please do read the contest rules here.

  1. Heh. I love that commercial, too, because it hits so close to home. My misunderstood lyric is from Steve Miller Band's "Jet Airliner".

    Actual lyrics:
Oh, oh big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away.

    My version:
Oh, bingo jet that'll light up
Don't carry me too far away.

Both my mom and a friend have laughed mightily at my version.

  2. For most of my childhood, I was blissfully ignorant of a key part of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Bad Moon Rising."

    Actual version:
    Don't go around tonight,
Well, it's bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.

    My version:
    Don't go around tonight,
Well, it's bound to take your life,
There's a bathroom on the right.

I have no idea why. I mean, come on, the right words are IN the title of the song!

  3. One mistake that I only recently learned was incorrect is from Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby.

    Actual Version:
Santa Baby, a fifty-four convertible, too.

    My version:
Santa Baby, a fifty floor convertible, too.

Sure, a convertible with fifty floors would be rather extravagant (and tall), but she did ask for a platinum mine, so it didn't seem too far-fetched! Needless to say, my mom thought my version was hilarious. Although she shouldn't be talking. I got a call a few years back at midnight when she finally realized that Jimmy Buffett stepped on a pop top, not on a Pop-Tart in Margaritaville. She always wondered how a toaster pastry could cut his foot...
