Random Giveaway #1: Holiday Songs

Time for the first random giveaway this holiday season. Following is all the information you will need, and the basic ground rules can be found by clicking here (please do take the time to read them if you're participating).

I LOVE holiday songs, and while some can get old by the end of the season, they are something I definitely look forward to this time of year. While I have a lot of favorite holiday songs, one of my most loved is Gary Hoey's, Jingle Bell Rock. Unfortunately, the YouTube version doesn't do it justice, but here it is, nonetheless.

If you'd like to participate in this giveaway, here's what you'll need to do.  Pick your favorite holiday-themed song and type out the lyrics to at least the first verse and chorus, or put a link to the song in your response (if it has no lyrics, or you’re not great with remembering the words, a link to the song is perfect). It must be a Christmas, Hanukah or other holiday song. You will have until this Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 10AM (Mountain Time) to submit your entry in the comments. Any entries received after that time won't be included in the giveaway drawing (I will use the time stamp on the comment entry as the cut off).

The random winner of this giveaway will receive a 1 year printed subscription to (winner's choice) either Momentum Magazine or Urban Velo.

  1. J.-S. Bach: Weihnachts-Oratorium (Christmas Oratorio) BWV 248

    1. Coro
Jauchzet, frohlocket, auf, preiset die Tage,
rühmet, was heute der Höchste getan!
Lasset das Zagen, verbannet die Klage,
stimmet voll Jauchzen und Fröhlichkeit an!

Shout for joy, exult, rise up, glorify the day,
praise what today the highest has done!
    Abandon hesitation, banish lamentation,
begin to sing with rejoicing and exaltation!
Serve the highest with glorious choirs,
let us honour the name of our ruler!

  2. Hark the herald angels sing
    "Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
    God and sinners reconciled."
    Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
    With the angelic host proclaim:
    "Christ is born in Bethlehem"
    Hark! The herald angels sing
    "Glory to the newborn King!"

  3. I'm not eligible, but here is my favorite!

    Run DMC, Christmas in Hollis

    "Run:

It was December 24th on Hollis Ave in the dark
When I seen a man chilling with his dog in the park
I approached very slowly with my heart full of fear
Looked at his dog, oh my God, an ill reindeer
But then I was illin because the man had a beard
And a bag full of goodies, 12 o'clock had neared
So I turned my head a second and the man had gone
But he left his driver's wallet smack dead on the lawn
I picket the wallet up then I took a pause
Took out the license and it cold said "Santa Claus"
A million dollars in it, cold hundreds of G's
Enough to buy a boat and matching car with ease
But I'd never steal from Santa, cause that ain't right
So I'm going home to mail it back to him that night
But when I got home I bugged, cause under the tree
Was a letter from Santa and all the dough was for me

    D.M.C. :

It's Christmas time in Hollis Queens
Mom's cooking chicken and collard greens
Rice and stuffing, macaroni and cheese
And Santa put gifts under Christmas trees
Decorate the house with lights at night
Snow's on the ground, snow white so bright
In the fireplace is the yule log
Beneath the mistle toe as we drink egg nog
The rhymes you hear are the rhymes of Darryl's
But each and every year we bust Chrsitmas carrols
    (Christmas melodies)

    Run-D.M.C. :

Rhymes so loud and prod you hear it
It's Christmas time and we got the spirit
Jack Frost chillin, the orchas out?
And that's what Christmas is all about
The time is now, the place is here
And the whole wide world is filled with cheer

    D.M.C. :

My name's D.M.C. with the mic in my hand
And I'm chilling and coolin just like a snowman
So open your eyes, lend us an ear
    We want to say

    Run-D.M.C. :

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"

  4. I have so many favorites, it was tough to pick just one. I decided to send this song because it's just cool, who doesn't love Dean Martin. Plus, it reminds me of days gone by, it's kinda romantic and well...it's beyond cheezy (kinda like me ;o)

    Baby It's Cold Outside

    I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away - Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been - Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice - I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what's your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry - Beautiful, please don't hurry
Well Maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink - No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell - I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move a little closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried - What's the sense in hurting my pride
    I really can't stay - Baby don't hold out
    Ahh, but it's cold outside

    C'mon baby

I simply must go - Baby, it's cold outside
The answer is no - Ooh baby, it's cold outside
This welcome has been - I'm lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm -- Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look so delicious
My brother will be there at the door - Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious - Gosh your lips look delicious
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Never such a blizzard before

I've got to go home - Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your comb - It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand - Your eyes are like starlight now
But don't you see - How can you do this thing to me
There's bound to be talk tomorrow - Making my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay - Get over that old out
    Ahh, but it's cold outside

    Baby it's cold outside

    Brr its cold...
    It's cold out there
Cant you stay awhile longer baby
    Well... I really shouldn't... alright

Make it worth your while baby
    Ahh, do that again...

  5. The Holly and the Ivy

Oh, the holly and the ivy,
when they are both full grown,
of all the trees that are in the wood
    the holly bears the crown.

Oh the rising of the sun
and the running of the deer,
the playing of the merry organ
    sweet singing of the choir.

    The holly bears a prickle
    as sharp as any thorn
and Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ
    to do poor sinners good.

Oh, the rising of the sun...

  6. Nice comments ;)

I bought a subscription to Momentum in September. To date, I have not received the Winter issue. Last week Momentum assured me that the issue was mailed out a few weeks ago. Just wondering if and when you received your Winter issue.

  7. Maggie, I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't received the winter issue. I honestly don't remember the exact day that it arrived for me, but I do know it was the day after it was available online (if that helps). I hope you're able to get it sorted out. I know sometimes things end up lost in the postal system, but hopefully you'll get yours very soon.

  8. Hmm. Guess mine was lost in the mail.
I'll send another request to Momentum.

    Thanks.
