  1. Gertrude Stein once said A rose is a rose is a rose so this year I gave my valentine one red rose and a Brooks Tool Roll (She's a cyclist.) I have to admit the she was a little surprise and seemed disappointed for a minute or two, but after that she was pleased with the usefulness of having all the tools in one place. The next day she told me that the leather was even warm to hold, somewhat like a nice handbag.

(And it will last longer than a rose.)

    1. Giles, I think that's a very sweet gift. I have found in the past that when telling other females about a non-traditional gift received that they often think it's a horrible gift. I believe that the only opinion that matters in this instance is your valentine... and am glad she enjoyed it. Personally, I find that receiving something practical is wonderful because every time I use it, I think about the person who gave it to me. As you state, flowers only last a short time, whereas a useful tool can bring happiness for a much longer period.
