Random Giveaway #10: Dogs, Cats or Neither

I have come to the conclusion that today requires another giveaway because, well, I am just in a giving mood. I am definitely an animal lover and would probably have an entire farm of strays if we had the money and space to house all of them (I'm sure Sam is reading this thinking that three dogs is plenty for one quite small house). When I was a kid, I used to wander down the street and find cats that were loose and bring them home. I didn't realize at that point in life that they were people's pets because our cats always lived solely indoors. I remember my father getting quite upset that I had dragged some poor neighbors cat home. He never seemed to appreciate my explanation that the "kitty was hungry and homeless." He would make me take the cat back to where I'd found it and I'd always be upset that the "poor kitty" had to live outside. Not much has changed in adulthood, except that now I know that some cats do in fact live both indoors and outdoors. Since Sam is allergic to cats, we have dogs (though he's actually allergic to them too, just not as severely), but I love them both.

So, for this giveaway the question is do you lean more toward a preference for dogs, cats, or neither and why? This is going to be a quicker giveaway and will be open until Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. MST. As always, the comment submission form will serve as the time stamp indicator and any entries received after the above cut off time will not be considered for the random giveaway. If you have not read the contest rules, please do read them by clicking here.

The giveaway for this round will be a set of black colored Bookman Bike Lights (head light and tail light). I actually did a little review on these lights a few months ago, so you can read more about them here, if interested. I have found mine to be quite handy, so I thought they could be great for someone else as well.

  1. I'm s sucker for all the strays too. I grew up with parents that were also suckers for all the strays. So I've always lived with bunches of animals. Dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, horses, rabbits and other rodents, ferrets. You name it, I've probably lived with it at some point. :) Right now, in our 2 bedroom apartment we have 11 cats. That's right, ELEVEN. Though, since they all like to hide and sleep, it seems like we only ever have 3-5 cats at any given time. When it comes down to cats and dogs, even though I love them all, when living in an apartment and not having a yard, I prefer to live with cats. They're quiet, I don't have to walk them, they're just as playful and cuddly and I can just leave them lots of food, water and litter boxes and leave for a weekend without needing a sitter. :)

  2. Dogs cause they're like a bank account: whatever love you put into them they give you back, with interest!

  3. Cats, especially mine because they are so relaxed to be around. BUT my kids are really leaning toward dogs. :)

  4. As a well known pet food company likes to proclaim, "Dogs Rule"! Since I have Chow Chows and travel with some frequency to dog shows, they are a very large part of my life. The companionship and interaction offered by dogs seems to be much more intense than with cats. (I like kitty's too, but don't have any for obvious reasons.)

  5. Dogs do it for me, Boxers in particular. Sasha is a rescue dog and as soon as we saw each other it was love, the skinny wee article licked my beard. Hooked! Patsy wasn't so sure as we just lost Tara two weeks earlier. Tara was a brindle like Sasha.
We live in a small terrace house and could fit in another boxer but it wouldn't be fair on Sasha who is soo spoiled. We are her humans more than she is our dog.

  6. Cats. We always had a cat since we married 35 years ago. Like Amy says a cat is more independent from humans than a dog thus we don't need a sitter except when we go to France each fall and then a neighbour comes in to feed Hortense (that's the name of our cat) and take of the litter, etc. I don't believe it myself, but my wife is convinced that Hortense knows in advance when the times come for us to travel to France; the cat then takes more notice of our neighbour (she visits fairly often) and less of us; maybe they have a kind of biological clock.

  7. Both. I was primarily a dog person until little Ella came into my life. I don't know that I'm fully converted into a cat person, but I'm definitely an Ella person.

  8. Okay! I love both cats and dogs! Currently we have two old cats, but these cats first lived harmoniously with a German Shepherd for the first several years of their lives. I wouldn't mind having a dog again someday, but sadly my husband thinks life w/o any indoor pets seems ideal. :^(

  9. Right now I lean more towards cats, just because I own cats and right now and have to be biased towards them. I used to lean towards dogs when I owned a dog. Now that I have my Buffon (named after an intense Italian soccer goalie) I couldn't conceive not liking cats.

  10. I love both, but I definitely lean toward cats. I have two cats and wish I could have a dog as well, but with my busy work schedule, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to give a dog the kind of companionship that most dogs need.
